NOTE: David & Katherine (Kay) Hammer purchased their farm from the Esther Sheffer Estate in January of 1975. They began purchasing small flocks of sheep, building to a flock of 150 commercial ewes. When their children developed an interest in showing registered sheep at fairs, they began small flocks of Rambouillet, Columbia and Lincoln Ewes.

Retiring from John Deere Dubuque Works in 2003, David became a full time shepherd. Concentrating on the registered sheep, the commercial flock was downsized. After his children stopped showing, he concentrated upon his Lincoln flock of white and colored ewes, showing at Iowa and Wisconsin State Fairs, NAILE at Louisville, KY & county fairs. His flock the years before his death averaged about 50 registered ewes. David died Oct. 8, 2018, from metastatic prostate cancer. His flock was dispersed after his death.
