The need: New boilers to heat the Darlington Carnegie Library that houses the offices of the Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society, museum and archives of Lafayette County. The 1905 building has hot water radiator heat powered by 31-year-old boilers. The system uses two boilers that support each other but one was failing and the switch between them failed. The old building can’t accommodate ductwork for forced air heat. The copper pipes throughout the building can deliver the heat if new boilers can be installed. Those same copper pipes are also the danger should the heat fail and frozen pipes be the result. New boilers will be installed as a need to further regulate temperatures through all of Wisconsin’s seasons. The boilers will operate much more efficiently, reducing utility bills to a more comfortable level.

The mission: It is the continued mission of the Society to collect, preserve, and share the history of Lafayette County’s places, events, and people. Recently the organization restored the Octagon Building at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds, and the 1937 caboose on the tracks beside the Darlington Depot. Their ongoing efforts continue to support the local community.
